Garden Gates, Driveway Gates, Side Gates
Our gate designs bring a contemporary twist to traditional style which makes them suitable for all types of residential properties and brings fantastic curb appeal to your home.
Metal driveway gates, including those made from aluminum, wrought iron, or powder-coated steel, stand out as the epitome of durability. Unlike their wooden counterparts, these metal gates require minimal maintenance and offer exceptional longevity.
Typically ranging from 12 to 24 feet wide, standard driveway gates come in various sizes to accommodate different property requirements. For residential properties, the width usually falls within the nine to 12 feet range, although larger or smaller options are available, tailored to suit your property’s dimensions. It is essential, however, to consider the size of the vehicles that will pass through, ensuring a perfect fit for seamless entry and exit.
If your gates are intended to open onto a private road or an unmaintained road, you have the freedom to install a gate structure up to 2 meters in height without the need for seeking planning approval.
Undoubtedly, there are exceptions to every rule. In certain cases, like having a relatively low fence, opting for a taller gate could be a strategic choice to enhance privacy and security. The decision ultimately rests with you, as you know best what complements your home’s aesthetics. Nevertheless, as a general guideline, we recommend maintaining a consistent height between the fence and gate for a harmonious and cohesive look.
In general, the height of front garden fencing must not exceed 1 meter (3.2 ft), which is lower than the maximum fence height allowed for a back garden. These limitations are put in place primarily for two essential reasons: to ensure the safe and responsible installation of fences.
A single gate offers ease of locking and presents a more formidable obstacle for potential intruders. However, if you have a fence that spans a walkway leading to your backyard, either a single or double gate can be suitable. If the walkway is intended for pedestrian access only, both gate types serve the purpose. However, if you envision using the walkway for driving a car or moving heavy equipment, a double gate becomes the preferred choice, providing the necessary width for seamless passage.
You won’t require planning permission for the following scenarios: Installing a new gate or railing that is entirely situated on your property, not facing a highway or footpath, and measuring less than 2 meters in height. However, side gates, electric gates, security gates, and railings that do not meet the aforementioned exemptions will necessitate planning permission.
